John L. Templin Jr. brings 34 years of healthcare management consulting experience to his role as president of Templin Management Associates, Inc. A nationally known expert on hospital turnarounds, labor and salary productivity measurement and monitoring, nursing service staffing, emergency department and surgical services throughput and human capital strategies, Mr. Templin served as president of the Productivity Improvement Division at Applied Leadership Technologies for three years before establishing Templin Management in 1986. Prior to joining ALT he worked for the Healthcare Association of New York State (HANYS) for 13 years, where he gained valuable insight on industry practices and became senior director of Management and Planning Services. In this capacity, he was the primary developer for the Resource Monitoring System™, later adopted by hospitals worldwide.

Mr. Templin is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE), the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS), and the American Association of Healthcare Consultants. HIMSS has recognized him as a Certified Professional in Healthcare Information Management. He is a member of the Clinical Laboratory Management Association (CLMA) and the Society for Health Systems. The ACHE has recognized him as a Certified Healthcare Executive and the AAHC has recognized him as a Certified Healthcare Consultant. He served four years on the national Board of Directors of CLMA. He was the HIMSS liaison member of the College of American Pathologists (CAP) Committee on Workload Recording. Twice he was chair of the HIMSS Education Committee, was a HIMSS representative to the Senior Leadership Education Task Force of the Joint Healthcare Information Technology Alliance. He is a past chair of the HIMSS Fellows Committee. He is chair of the Small and Independent Consultants Special Interest Group (SIG), and chair of the SIG Chairs. He has also served on energy committees for the American Hospital Association and Blue Cross Association. Within New York, he has served on the Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Greater New York Laboratory Technical Advisory Committee. He was a member of the Task Force on Nursing Personnel of the Governor's Health Advisory Council. He was a member of the ACHE Affiliated Chapters and Certification committees and a Reagent’s Advisory Council. He is a member of Who's Who, Worldwide. He is past-president of the Northeastern New York Healthcare Managers Association, an ACHE affiliate. Finally, he is secretary-elect for the SHS Board of Directors.

Mr. Templin received the ACHE Regents Senior Healthcare Executive Award. He has received national recognition as an expert on productivity measurement, nurse staffing and patient classification, and operating room management. He has delivered many speeches and papers on these topics. Within HIMSS he as received the Management Engineer of the Year Award, the Fellows Distinguished Service Award and the Society Leadership Award.
John received his bachelor of science degree in management engineering and a Master of Science in Management from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, in Troy, New York.

CHARISSA ASHMAN, RN, BSN, MBA
Charissa owns and operates Szumiloski Healthcare Consulting, LLC. As a consultant within the Templin Management group she brings clinical and operational expertise from a variety of settings, including the emergency department and all inpatient nursing units; geriatrics; home health care; physician practices; and outpatient clinics. Some of her operations experience includes the development of staffing levels and patterns, leadership responsibilities, bench- marking analyses, process improvements, clinical documentation, training, and medical error tracking.

Her administrative experience includes working as a full time supervisor for a 200-bed community hospital, a case manager for a large non-profit home health agency, and as a project developer at General Electric Corporate Health. At GE, she assisted in both the development of scorecards and a national employee benefits plan. Ms. Ashman was formerly a healthcare consultant at PricewaterhouseCoopers where she performed services for a variety of provider types.

Ms. Ashman is a registered professional nurse in New York and California. Some of her affiliations include membership with Sigma Theata Tau, the National Professional Honor Society for Registered Nurses; the American College of Healthcare Executives; the Medical Group Management Association; and the American Health Lawyers Association.

Charissa has an Associate in Applied Science degree from Maria College in Albany, New York, a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from the Institute of Technology at Utica-Rome, New York, and a MBA in Health Systems Administration from Union College, Schenectady, New York. In addition, she has completed Project Leadership Training at Gannon University and Six Sigma Greenbelt Training, at the General Electric Company, Schenectady, New York.

JOAN RIZZI-HENDERSON, RN, MBA, CMC
A seasoned healthcare professional who has four decades of experience in acute care, long-term care and public health settings, Ms. Rizzi-Henderson brings considerable expertise to Templin Management Associates, Inc.  As owner of JRH Associates - an independent TMA - affiliated consultancy - she evaluates patient classification systems, facilitates revisions and develops new products, services and methods.  Among the many services Ms. Rizzi-Henderson provides Templin clients are productivity measurement and monitoring surveys, staffing studies, systems designs and analyses, product line management, on-site educational seminars, organizational evaluation, management support and counsel.

Prior to becoming part of the Templin team in 1986, Ms. Rizzi-Henderson served as senior consultant for Applied Leadership Technologies.  Before that, she was the manager and assistant director of nursing for the Hospital Association of New York State.

Known for her in-depth knowledge of nursing service productivity, monitoring methods, quality assurance, and management and employee relations, Ms. Rizzi-Henderson is a former adjunct faculty member in the health services administration program at Quinnipiac College in Hamden, Connecticut and the MBA program at Sacred Heart University in Bridgeport, Connecticut.  She received her certification from the Institute of Management Consultants and is a member of the Connecticut League of Nursing and the Association of Nurse Consultants.

Ms. Rizzi-Henderson received her Nursing Degree from Flower-Fifth Avenue Hospital in New York, her Bachelor of Science in Health Services Administration from Quinnipiac College, and her Master's Degree in Business Administration from Sacred Heart University.

In his most recent assignment he functioned as the interim CIO for a 450-bed teaching hospital. Don is also known for his business development skills.

Jeff Denum
Based in Houston, Jeff has 25 years healthcare materials management experience. He has worked with individual hospitals and health systems to maximize group purchasing value and to minimize supply costs.

Tom Poe
Also based in San Antonio, Tom has 20 years healthcare materials management experience. He has worked with individual hospitals and health systems to maximize group purchasing value and to minimize supply costs. He is the former national director of materials management for a southwest based healthcare system. Tom is especially adept at reducing costs and standardizing products in the operating room and cardiac cath labs.

Susan Richardson, CPA
Based in Tampa, Susan has more than 30 years healthcare experience. She has served as full time and acting chief fiscal officer, and she has particular expertise in updating Chargemasters.

Ted Shaw, CPA
Based in Dallas, Ted has 25 years healthcare experience including hospitals, health systems and services companies. He has transitioned from a public accounting background to being nationally known as a financial expert. In his most recent assignment he functioned as the interim CFO for a 450-bed teaching hospital.

Ann Thompson, FACHE
Based in Tampa, Ann has 20 years healthcare experience including hospitals, health systems and consulting. She often serves as the lead consultant for our turnaround studies. As such, she interacts routinely with boards of directors and hospital executives.
